Specialist nurses / MDTs

There are lots of specialists nurses that are great sources of advice and help – so use them!

Outreach – 045 – brilliant if you need a hand with sickies.  Also good at liasing with ITU.  Often ward nurses will refer directly.  Also work at weekends.

Respiratory nurse Leo – bleep 068 – does spirometry, assesses patients for LTOT, and often knows lots of the COPD patients.

Diabetes nurse – 585, 584 – very useful for difficult diabetic patients or questions about improving diabetic control.

Heart failure nurses – 546 – again they usually know the frequent flyers, and very helpful at getting people plugged into community services and therefore home quickly.
